My name is Peter Stewart and our family owns a grand old Canterbury homestead at Hororata. Our home is two storey, comprising of ten bedrooms, two lounges, two offices, a large dining room and kitchen. The house is built of timber and the weatherboards are New Zealand Rimu.
The homestead was severely shattered in the September earthquake, the centre of this earthquake was within five miles of our home. Three chimneys collapsed, one going through the ceiling of an office, the weatherboards moved and all internal walls had racked dramatically.
After the damage was assessed by the insurance company we were able to start re-strengthening, which included all internal cladding being removed, extra studs and plasterboard installed and the corrugated iron roof was replaced.
At the start of this major project I asked five companies to submit a price for these repairs. This included wallpapering, the stopping of plasterboard and repairing two outside sheds. PB Goosey was the successful tenderer.
I found Mr Goosey’s company to be very responsible, business like and truly professional. The repairs to the homestead was a huge responsibility for any contractor to undertake because of its age and wood panelling.
